Vaughan Regional Medical Center Names 2009 Mercy Award Winner
April 9, 2009
Selma, AL. – Hospitals are full of unsung heroes - people who take care and concern for others to a whole new level. Vaughan Regional Medical Center is singing the praises of one such individual. Earnest Smith was awarded the hospital's 2009 Mercy Award.
The annual Mercy Award is the one of the highest honors an employee can receive. The annual award recognizes one hospital employee who exemplifies the spirit and values of caring, compassion and exceptional customer service on a daily basis.
Earnest's motto is "It's all good!" He shares it with patients, staff, and visitors alike. "Earnest's ‘can do' attitude and giving spirit are a great example to us all at Vaughan," said Vaughan CEO Barry Keel. "His daily commitment in making Vaughan a great hospital is unquestionable. He greets everyone with a smile and goes out of his way to make a positive impact on everyone who comes in contact with him," said Keel. "Earnest is a genuine asset to our Vaughan family, and we are proud to have had him as a member of the Vaughan family for the last 10 years and look forward to many more years of hearing Earnest remind us that "it's all good!"
Earnest plays a large role in the community as well. He regularly assists patients and staff in any way that he can and is always "shining a light to as many people as possible," he says. He is involved with his church as secretary of his Sunday School Class and enjoys visiting with nursing home patients weekly.
This Mercy Award honor puts Earnest in the running for national recognition within LifePoint Hospitals' 2009 company-wide Mercy Award. The company-wide winner will be honored at a ceremony in Washington, D.C., in June 2009.
