Why You Should Consider a Pediatrician

Pediatrics is a vital department in any hospital, dedicated to the medical care of infants, children, and adolescents. Pediatricians are specially trained to diagnose and treat a wide range of childhood illnesses, from minor health issues to serious diseases. Their expertise ensures that young patients receive age-appropriate care in a safe, supportive environment. Pediatrics also emphasizes preventive care, including vaccinations, growth monitoring, and early detection of developmental concerns. By supporting children’s physical, emotional, and developmental health, pediatric care plays a crucial role in fostering long-term well-being. Additionally, pediatric teams often collaborate with families to provide education and support, making them essential in promoting healthy lifestyles and managing chronic conditions.

Our Pediatric Unit

Our pediatric unit is designed with our young patients in mind to make a hospital stay seem a little more like home. This unit is staffed by nurses specially trained in the care of children. A parent is welcome to stay with the child overnight, and while here, will be served a guest tray at mealtime, compliments of Vaughan Regional Medical Center. There are VCRs and DVD players in each room for patients to watch their favorite children's movies. And depending on their condition, young patients may use the playroom.

Preparation Before Your Visit

Here are some common questions that patients or their parents/guardians often ask in pediatric care:

  1. Is my child growing and developing normally?

  2. What vaccines does my child need, and when?

  3. What should I do if my child has a fever?

  4. When should I bring my child in for a check-up?

  5. How can I manage my child’s allergies or asthma?

  6. What are signs of a serious illness in children?

  7. How can I help my child eat healthy and stay active?

  8. Is my child’s behavior normal for their age?

  9. When should I be concerned about a cough or cold?

  10. What should I do if my child isn’t sleeping well?

These questions help guide conversations between families and pediatricians to ensure optimal care and early intervention when needed.
